The Island 22 Equestrian Park Society has been around for as long as the park has been. Most of the people sitting as group members were part of its original conception and have remained loyal to the park ever since. For many of us, Island 22 is a part of our lives and extremely hard to leave behind.

Show Committee

Park Society

The group comes from all walks of life and consists of men and woman. One of the wonderful things has been the entrance of some of our very first riders on the course now being active members in the day-to-day activities of the groups work.

We consist of young and old, riders and non-riders. Some of us once had children who were very active in Eventing and Pony Club but now no longer ride.

Island 22 is a park that is hard to give up.

We are a very varied bunch from all walks of life: we now consist of 16 people with a love for this park.

We are retired, semi-retired, mothers, fathers, accountants, politicians, electricians, veterinarians, secretaries, and bankers but the one thing that brings us together is the pure joy that the park gives us, and the adrenaline rush we feel when seeing this park being used.

The Island 22 Equestrian Park Society must deal with much more than horses and jumps. We are responsible for finding and raising the money that is used for the day-to-day upkeep of the place - trail, grass, paddock, fence line and jump maintenance. We raise this money by sponsoring clinics, our Annual Event and government grant requests.

We are in charge of upgrading the jumps and are the people out there with the actual hammer, saws and nails building them along side the course designer.

We must attend all Horse Council, BC Eventing, local rider groups meetings to keep on top of all user changes, insurance issues, Eventing rules and regulation changes, as well as city and provincial bylaw changes. We also need to work with the local parks board.

Don’t forget, Island 22 is public land and is therefore subject to government park rules, regulations and politics.

Our main goal has been trying to educate the public, the local governments and the multiple park users about horses, equestrian sports, the parks importance in the BC Equestrian Community and our overall love of this park.

We do all of this for free because we are volunteers.

Most of the work to keep Island 22 as is, happens in the off-season when many of our Eventers are closing up for the winter months.

Your continued support of Island 22, and the work that we do, is needed all year round.

Island 22 Horse Park is much more than a park: it is the only open safe, publicly owned training facility in BC and requires lots of work, love and support.

So come on down and show your support!! Tell the local papers what a great time you had while riding your horse. Let the city know that horse people are here to stay!
