Mt. Cheam Horse Trials April 19-20, 2008
As the horses and
competitors arrived on Friday, so did the snow.
Setting up the dressage rings was done in a
blanket of snow! Could this really be
happening? Were we really about to start a competition
with 118 riders? Then came the rain, the
mud and the many stuck trucks and trailers. Did anyone see 5 girls push out Lynne
Larsen's truck and trailer as Jens got it stuck good!
Sorry, Jens, but it was
too funny. - Somehow Saturday morning
arose to see the sun, but with very cold winds.
The club offered a free hot chocolate stand to try to keep the
riders warm, as they completed the dressage and stadium phases. With the cold winds and sun, the footing managed to dry
up quite a bit from the hard rain and snow from the previous day, and the cross
country course rode well. The sun kept shining and by the time awards
were presented, the sudden blast of winter was gone, and the layers of clothing
were coming off.
On behalf of the Mt. Cheam Pony Club, we hope everyone enjoyed the "Blast of Winter Horse Trials" .
