THE ISLAND 22 EQUESTRIAN PARK

Chilliwack, BC, Canada

20th Anniversary Event!!!

A note from the society president:

Thank You all for doing the impossible.
The 2007 Island 22 horse trials was a huge success. Perfect weather, trouble free competition, good food and a lot of fun.
I'm still expecting to wake up and find I dreamed the whole thing. Even the cleanup afterwards went smooth. Going through the campsite a few
days ago, I found barely a scrap of garbage left behind. The competitors should be congratulated and thanked heartily.

The Foresters Island 22 Event and 20th Anniversary was a HUGE success and we were blessed with the best weather any event organizer could have ever asked for – over cast with the hint of occasional sun – perfect in every way.

We had 180 entries registered and ended up with about 175 after the usual scratches. It was an awesome turnout for an awesome event.

Everyone arrived on Friday to a threat of rain but all the positive high spirits and genuine happy people kept the rain to a minimal. Our dressage crew were out there in full force and set up the rings and decorations just beautifully. The flags were flying and everything was picture perfect.

It stayed that way on Saturday with the weather giving us a bit of warm sun to make the photos beautiful and the day lovely. Everyone looked perfect in their black jackets and white pants with their horses braided up lovely. The cross country committee were out on the course in full force tweaking all the jumps and making sure everything was safe and perfect.

On Sunday the day turned over cast making it a PERFECT day for cross country. The pre-entry and entry riders rode some beautiful rounds. The pre-training and training riders all rode safe and our training and preliminary riders battled things out at the water jump, many successfully but it was a true test, along with Glens Gulp and the nasty skinny that followed. It was a true championship course and we had some dazzling rides. We welcomed many new spectators to the sport and all enjoyed themselves. We did have a few falls but nothing major – minor bruises and a few hurt prides but no injuries. We did have a very unfortunate incident with a fisherman on the dyke who suffered a sudden heart attack. Due to the quick thinking of our fellow eventers who are doctors and our paramedic on hand this gentleman arrived at the hospital safely.

To the quick thinking people that attended this man – THANK YOU.

On Sunday night we rocked the night away until MIDNIGHT with our famous BBQ and party with live music. We also had some very special guests in the crowd in honor of the events 20th birthday. We introduced to our riders some of the very first people that made the park a possibility and what it is today. We hope that all of our young riders realize what great effort went into creating this park for them to use. Without the people they were introduced to this park, and all it has to offer them, would not have been possible.

On Monday the weather was perfect in every way – over cast. Our championship riders dolled up for their vet checks and there were no sad calls. Our stadium day was a long one with Pam Arthur dazzling quite a few horses and we saw a lot of movement in the placings. The prizes were amazing with lovely Ariat brush bags and beautiful blankets. The Championship blankets were very special and all our riders looked lovely.

It was a fun, successful weekend and the Island 22 Horse Park Society would like to thank all our riders, volunteers, sponsors and spectators for making it a weekend to remember.

Here are photos that Adel and I were able to collect over the weekend. There are videos movies. as well to come soon.
