Home track advantage pays off for local cross-country runners  The TimesOctober 15, 2010

Chilliwack cross-country runners took on athletes from Surrey to Hope and everywhere in between last week at the 12th annual Chilliwack Invitational on Island 22.

About 250 runners from 26 Fraser Valley schools gathered for the race hosted every year by Vedder middle school.

"There's not a lot of meets out there for cross-country, and I think Chilliwack is a beautiful venue to run in," said race organizer and Vedder middle coach Sue Northey, "and it's also really nice for us to have a home meet so we're not always traveling,".

In all, seven Chilliwack schools came out to capitalize on their home track advantage.

Megan Muir of G.W. Graham took top spot in the middle school girls 3.7-km race (15:18) followed by Vedder middle runners Jennifer Wiebe (16:57) and Amarit Toor (17:02).

In middle school boys action, Vedder's Tanner Geary came in first (14:50) while Unity Christian's Dylan Ramdial (15:01) edged out Mt. Slesse's Paul Braila (15:16) for second.

Kristy Ricard of Chilliwack middle took second place in the 4.2-km junior girls race (17:15), coming in only 12 seconds behind the first-place Abbotsford runner.

In the junior boys 5.8-km race, G.W. Graham runners Jesse MacDuff (21:39) and James Rawson (21:44) narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth and fifth respectively.

Sardis runner Ashley Heisler took second place in the senior girls 4.2-km event in 17:20, and hard on her heels was Chilliwack secondary's Jen Prior, who finished fourth with a time of 17:20.

In senior boys action, Chilliwack's top finisher was Chilliwack secondary's Charles Dyck, who ran the 5.8-km race in 22:36 and came in eighth.

Stabling Issue at Park for Event!!!!

Posted on August 30, 2010 at 5:29 PM Comments comments (0)

Due to an overwhelming response to our event, we have a waiting list for stabling. We have secured some very nice off-site stabling, less than 5 minutes from the Park.

Option one: There are two HUGE covered stalls (you provide bedding) and 1 Massive clover based paddock and 1 large gravel based with scattered grass paddock. PLUS room for your camper with electricity. $100 per horse for weekend. Is only 1.8 kil from Island 22 park between the park and the Garden Center on Young Road. If you have a horse good with traffic you can easily hack there but you can also trailer in if you wish. Circular driveway. This place can accommodate 4 horses easy or more if your horses can be turned out together in the paddocks. If only two horses at this site they will have the option to turn out in the clover paddock during the day.

Option two: About 15 minute trailer from Island 22 is a horse stable with 2 large clean stalls with individual paddock turnout. You can camp on site. There is a washroom in the barn. No electrical hook up for campers - sorry. $65 for the weekend.

Please let us know if you would be willing to stable off-site or are able to travel back and forth rather than stabling.

email: island22website@yahoo.ca as soon as possible please or call Margo at:604-309-4769

If you are on the wait-list, you have already been contacted.”

note there is a small wording error in the Omnibus. The Intermediate division should be called an official IP division. The prices stay the same. And we are still holding the I HT for Intermediate riders who do not want to do any cross country.

I have some great prizes and wine all lined up for the IP riders so come on down folks!!!!!!!!!!!

Spring Fling Dressage Day - New Format

Posted on May 7, 2010 at 11:29 PM Comments comments (0)

We have received enough interest to warrant accepting entries for a Dressage Clinic Day on Sunday May 16th at the park. This will include full use of the XC course with a filled water jump.

We would like to see around 25 riders to make this work for the Society and the Park.

We have agreed on accepting entries until Sunday night to make see if there is enough to fill the judges time. Please fill out the form and send it back to me so that we can make a proper decision. Thank you.

The new form can be found on the website home page.

Please remember to add any special instructions if you are coming with a group so that we can plan your times accordinly.

If you registered for the Saturday under the old formate of this weekend and wish to instead move your entry to Sunday please email me and let me know.

On anther note - I mentioned that this may be one of the last times that the park will be available to use before August. I was at the park again today and the river is definitly rising so water areas will begin to form in the low spots at the park and mosquitos usually come at the same time.

I will keep a regular mosquito monitor on the home page to let people know if it is worth coming out to the park during the summer months but I do recomend people take advantage of the situation now while it is available to train on .
